The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has suspended wrestler Bajrang Punia and has also sent a notice. NADA has taken this action after Bajrang Punia did not give his sample for dope test during the national trials held in Sonipat in March. Bajrang Punia has time till July 11 to respond against the notice.
Earlier, on May 5 also, NADA had suspended him. When last time NADA suspended Bajrang, his suspension was revoked by the disciplinary panel because he was not issued a notice. Now NADA has also issued a notice to Bajrang Punia along with the suspension.
On March 10, during the National Trials of Asian Qualifiers for participation in the Olympic Games, NADA had asked Bajrang to give his sample. But, Bajrang refused to give the sample.
Brij Bhushan was accused of sexual exploitation
Wrestlers had accused former WFI President Brij Bhushan of sexual exploitation of female wrestlers. There was a movement regarding this under the leadership of Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik. The wrestlers first staged a protest at Jantar Mantar. After this, the Supreme Court gave orders on his petition and Delhi Police registered a case against Brij Bhushan.
The hearing of this case is going on in the court. During this time, WFI elections were held and Sanjay Singh, close to Brij Bhushan, won the elections. After which apart from Bajrang, Vinesh Phogat also returned her awards. Whereas Sakshi Malik retired from wrestling.
Bajrang played Asian Games without giving trials
Bajrang Punia had lost in the semi-final match of Hangzhou Asian Games in China last year. Not only this, even in the bronze medal match, Bajrang was defeated by Japanese wrestler K. Yamaguchi was defeated 10-0. After his defeat, many people were furious on social media, because he had not participated in any competitive match before participating in the Asian Games.
He was also criticized for including him in the Indian squad for these games without trial.
Won gold in Commonwealth Games- 2022
Bajrang Punia won the bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics. He won the gold medal for India in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. Bajrang Punia defeated L of Canada in the final of men’s free style 65 kg weight category. McLean was defeated 9-2. This was Bajrang Punia’s second consecutive gold medal and third overall in the Commonwealth Games, although after winning that gold medal, he has not been able to do anything special.
Padmashree award was returned due to WFI elections
Wrestler Bajrang Punia had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and announced to return the Padma Shri award. In this letter, Bajrang had expressed his opposition to the victory of Sanjay Singh, close to Brij Bhushan, on the post of President of the Indian Wrestling Association.
Three months ago, after not getting entry into the Prime Minister’s residence, Bajrang placed his award on the footpath in front. Bajrang said, ‘I will not be able to live such a respectable life after insulting women wrestlers, so I am returning my respect. Now I can no longer live under the burden of this honour.
