Time will tell whether this will happen on June 1 or not, but it is a common discussion that the prices of LPG cylinders will increase after the elections. Let us take a look at the changes in domestic LPG cylinder prices before and after the Modi government’s tenure and elections.
On June 1, 2014, the price of non-subsidized domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi was Rs 905 per cylinder. Today i.e. on 27 May 2024, the price of domestic cylinder in Delhi is Rs 803 and that of commercial cylinder is Rs 1745.50. Let us tell you that the price of subsidized LPG cylinder at that time was Rs 414.

The first term of the Prime Minister is from May 2014 to 2019 and the second is from 2019 till now. On June 1, 2023, the price of domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi was Rs 1103. According to Indian Oil data, the same cylinder without subsidy was priced at Rs 928.50 in Delhi on May 1, 2014. This means that in total, domestic LPG cylinder has become cheaper by Rs 125 in last 10 years.
The price of non-subsidised domestic cylinder was reduced by Rs 216 during the first term of the Modi government. As compared to Rs 928.50 on May 1, 2014, domestic cylinder became cheaper in Delhi at Rs 712.50 on May 1, 2019. At the same time, in the second term, the same cylinder jumped by Rs 712.50 to reach Rs 1103 and now it is Rs 803.50, i.e. the price increased by only Rs 91.
After the formation of Modi government in May 2014, the cylinder price became Rs 980.50 in June 2014. It became Rs 883.50 in October 2014. In February 2015, the price of domestic LPG cylinder dropped to Rs 605 and in August 2015, it started becoming available at Rs 585.

Relief received in election year
Election year 2019 brought some relief for LPG consumers. In February the price of cylinder dropped to Rs 659. By August it came down to Rs 574.50, but in the beginning of 2020 it reached Rs 714. In February it reached Rs 858.50.
Domestic LPG cylinder prices fell to Rs 581.50 in May and remained stable at Rs 594 till November 2020. In December 2021, the cylinder rate reached Rs 899.50 and there was no change in the rate till March 21, 2022.
LPG cylinder prices reduced by Rs 300 this year
In Delhi, on March 22, 2022, the rate of domestic LPG cylinder jumped to Rs 949.50 and even crossed Rs 1000 in May. After this, on July 6, 2022, the cylinder reached Rs 1053. From then till February 2023 it was at the same rate. Cylinder prices increased again in March 2023 and the price reached Rs 1103. After this, on August 30, 2023, there was a relief of Rs 200 and the price became Rs 903. On March 9, 2024, the cylinder once again became cheaper by Rs 100. In such a situation, it now remains to be seen whether the results of the Lok Sabha elections on June 4 will prove to be a disaster or a relief for domestic LPG cylinder consumers.
