The Indian sports world is eagerly awaiting the outcome of wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s appeal against her disqualification from the Paris Olympics 2024. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is set to announce its decision on Tuesday after hearing arguments from all parties. Meanwhile, this Indian wrestler, despite winning and losing, has left the Olympic Village. She will return to India soon, but it is possible that she may wait for the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sports, because the decision regarding her Olympic medal may be taken on Tuesday, August 13.
On Tuesday, August 6, Vinesh Phogat made it to the finals in women’s 50 kg freestyle wrestling by defeating three veteran wrestlers including Japan’s number one wrestler Yui Susaki. The next day i.e. on August 7, Vinesh Phogat was to fight America’s Sarah Hildebrandt, but when she was weighed the same morning, she was found overweight. According to reports, his weight was 50 kilograms to 100 grams more. She tried to lose weight overnight, cut her hair, even had blood drawn, but she could not lose 50 or less kilos.
However, in the pre-quarterfinals, quarterfinals and semi-finals, he played with a weight of less than 50 kg, as weighing is done before the start of the competition. At that time she was 49 kg 900 grams, but on the same day her weight increased because she fought three bouts one after the other and during this she also ate some food for energy and due to this her weight increased, which she lost at night. I couldn’t reduce it even after trying hard. Thus he was disqualified from the Olympics and was placed at the last rank.
Even if she had lost in the final, her silver medal was certain and the fight for this matter is currently going on in the court. Vinesh Phogat says that she should at least get a silver medal in combined, because she has won pre-quarter final, quarter final and semi-final with weight less than 50 kg. Vinesh Phogat has demanded that she be given a joint silver medal with Cuban wrestler Eusnelis Guzman Lopez. Lopez had lost to Vinesh in the semi-finals, but later got a place in the final when the Indian wrestler was disqualified.
