Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has filed an appeal against her disqualification in the Paris Olympics. They have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sports late on Wednesday night to jointly award them the silver medal. Vinesh had also demanded to play the final first. But they changed their appeal and now jointly demanded to be given silver.
On Wednesday morning, Vinesh’s weight was found to be 100 grams more than her prescribed category of 50kg. After this the Olympic Association disqualified her for freestyle women’s wrestling. The Indian Olympic Association has also confirmed this.
After being out of the Olympics, Vinesh’s health deteriorated and she was admitted to the hospital. When coach Vijay Dahiya came to meet her, Vinesh told him – ‘It was bad luck that we missed the medal, but this is a part of the game.’
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha to find ways to help the wrestler. The PM has also asked Usha to lodge a protest in this matter.

Doctor said- kept exercising all night to lose weight
Indian Olympic team doctor Dinshaw Paudiwala issued a statement saying that Vinesh and her coach came to know about her excess weight on Tuesday night itself. After this, Vinesh did not sleep the whole night and kept doing exercises like jogging, skipping and cycling to bring her weight in the prescribed category.
Doctor Paudiwala told that Vinesh had even cut her hair and nails. His clothes were also made smaller. Despite this his weight did not decrease. Some media reports said that the Indian team had demanded to give Vinesh some more time, but their demand was not heard.

First Indian female wrestler to reach the Olympic finals
Vinesh on Tuesday became the first Indian female wrestler to reach the final of 50 kg wrestling Olympics by winning 3 matches. She defeated Cuban wrestler Guzman Lopez in the semi-finals, Oksana Livach of Ukraine in the quarterfinals and world champion Yui Susaki of Japan 3-2 in the pre-quarterfinals.
