Team India achieved a one-sided victory in its first match against Afghanistan in Super-8. Be it batting or bowling, Rohit Sharma’s team overpowered the neighboring team on every front.
Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first at the Kensington Oval Stadium in Bridgetown. He was out in the powerplay. Virat Kohli also returned to the pavilion after scoring 24 runs. Rishabh Pant scored 20 runs in 11 balls. The team’s score in the 11th over was 90 runs for 4 wickets. But Suryakumar hit fifty at a strike rate of 190. Hardik Pandya scored 32 runs and took the team to 181 runs.
Now it was the turn of the Indian bowlers. He did not allow the Afghan batsmen to rest. 3 wickets were dropped in the powerplay itself. Bumrah gave only 7 runs in 4 overs and also took 3 wickets. Afghanistan was all out for 134 runs. Team India has strengthened its claim for the semi-finals. Read match analysis…
match winner
Suryakumar Yadav came to bat at number four. Team India had lost the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant in the powerplay and Afghanistan’s bowlers kept the pressure on. Suryakumar started batting in his own style. At one time his strike rate reached 200. By the time Afghanistan’s bowlers regained control, Surya had scored a fifty. He had made a half-century partnership with Hardik Pandya. Team India had reached that total, where the bowlers had to bowl only with discipline. Surya was adjudged man of the match.
hero of victory
Jasprit Bumrah: 4 overs, 7 runs and 3 wickets. Jasprit Bumrah’s figures do not look like those of a T-20 match. When he came in the first over, he took the wicket of Afghanistan’s opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Hazratullah Zazai was dismissed in the second over and then Rahmanullah Zadran was taken in the third over. When he came to bowl the fourth over, he gave only one run, that too was not added to his account, because the ball touched his leg. This performance of Bumrah made Afghanistan’s run chase impossible.
Arshdeep Singh: Arshdeep started the bowling for India. Gurbaz targeted him. He went ahead and hit a six and a four. He gave 9 runs in the second over. After this, Rohit handed the ball directly to Arshdeep in the 18th over, when Afghanistan had 3 wickets left. Arshdeep took the wickets of Rashid Khan and Naveen Ul Haq in the same over. After this, Afghanistan’s innings was ended by taking the wicket of Noor Ahmed in the 20th over.
Hardik Pandya: The Indian all-rounder supported Suryakumar who was batting stormily. After Suryakumar’s dismissal, he did not let the run rate fall by hitting fours and sixes. He hit 3 fours and 2 sixes in his innings of 32 runs. After this, he bowled 2 overs and gave only 13 runs.
Turning point- mastermind bumrah
Bumrah got Gurbaz caught by wicketkeeper Pant on the second ball of his first over.
Chasing the target of 182, Afghanistan’s opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz made a fast start. Arshdeep was swing bowling. Gurbaz broke the swing and went ahead and hit a four and a six. Then Bumrah, standing at third man, was watching this strategy of Gurbaz. Bumrah brought the next over. He knew how to stop Gurbaaz. The first length ball was bowled, which Gurbaz played on covers, but no run was scored. Gurbaz had progressed on this ball also. The next ball, Bumrah bowled short of length on the wide line. Gurbaz then moved forward, but could not cover the line and length of the ball. The ball took the outer edge of the bat and went into Pant’s gloves. The fall of Gurbaz’s wicket was the biggest blow for Afghanistan, which was chasing the target of 182.
Reason for Afghanistan’s defeat
- Rashid-Farooqui did not have support from other bowlers, could not create pressure Rashid Khan had dismissed Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and Shivam Dubey in low scores. Fazal Haq Farooqui took the wickets of Rohit Sharma and then Surya, Jadeja in the powerplay. But apart from these two bowlers, no other bowler could put pressure on the Indian batsmen. Indian batsmen kept scoring runs continuously. Virat-Pant made a partnership of 43 runs in 25 balls and Surya-Pandya made a partnership of 60 runs in 37 balls. Due to which India reached a big score.
- Afghanistan’s batting fell apart Afghanistan’s top order batsmen scattered while chasing a big score. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (11 runs), Zazai (2 runs), Zadran (8) and Naib contributed 17 runs. The top scorer was Azmatullah Omarzai, who scored 26 runs. 8 batsmen could not even cross 15 runs. The entire batting disintegrated. Didn’t focus on building partnerships. Due to this, Afghanistan could not overtake India anywhere in the match.
Fighter of the match- Naib-Omzai pair
The pair of Gulbadin Naib and Azmatullah Omzai was the fighter of the match. Chasing 182 runs, Afghanistan lost 3 wickets for 23 runs in the powerplay. In such a situation, Naib made a partnership of 44 runs on 38 balls with Omjai for the fourth wicket and took over the innings, when this partnership was broken, the team’s score was 67 runs.
