Rajya Sabha MP and social worker Sudha Murthy is facing trolling on social media because of this one of her videos. In this video, he has attributed the beginning of Rakshabandhan to a legend related to Mughal Emperor Humayun and Queen Karnavati of Chittor. In a video shared on his social media platform From then till now this tradition continues continuously.
Sudha Murthy, while narrating the story in her video, said that Raksha Bandhan or Rakhi, according to me, is one of the important festivals, where a sister ties a thread. It shows that in case of my difficulty, you should always be there to help me. Brothers and sisters are very important in life. This festival dates back to when Queen Karnavati of Chittor was in danger in the 16th century. After this he narrated the entire story of Rani Karnavati and King Humayun written by Satish Chandra. After this he said that this practice holds great significance especially in North India. A sister will travel any distance to tie Rakhi and whatever the brother gives her will be kept in their respective hands.
People started trolling Sudha Murthy on this story narrated by him. Commenting below this post, a user wrote that you should read history for 20 hours daily and only then speak something. Another user commented that you should not propagate lies. Another user wrote that I thought you liked reading history but you read fiction. Another user while narrating the story of Draupadi and Krishna on Raksha Bandhan said that the festival of Rakshabandhan has been going on since then, you should not spread these false stories.
Actually, historian Satish Chandra has mentioned this story in his books but there is no mention of this incident in any other contemporary book or anywhere else, hence many people consider this incident only a legend.
