Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant was banned for one match on Saturday for slow over-rate in three matches of this IPL season. This decision was taken after a virtual hearing.
Actually, Delhi Capitals had slow overs against Rajasthan Royals on 7th May, against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on 3rd April and against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on 21st March. Because of this, Pant was found guilty of violating the IPL Code of Conduct as captain.
Pant fined 3 times in 3 matches
A fine of Rs 30 lakh was imposed against Rajasthan Royals.
A fine of Rs 24 lakh was imposed against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
A fine of Rs 12 lakh was imposed against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Now understand the rule of fine for slow over rate in IPL
Under the IPL code of conduct related to slow over rate, if the captain of a team is found guilty for the first time, then he faces a fine of Rs 12 lakh. If that captain commits a slow over rate offense for the second time in the season, a fine of Rs 24 lakh is imposed. If the mistake is made for the third time, the captain is banned for one match and fined Rs 30 lakh.
Rishabh Pant has scored 413 runs in 12 matches this season.
DC remains in the race for playoffs
Delhi is still in the race for the playoffs. Delhi is at fifth position in the points table with 12 points from 12 matches. Delhi Capitals has to face Royal Challengers Bangalore in the next match on Sunday. In this match to be played on May 12, Delhi Capitals team will be without Pant.
That’s why virtual hearing took place
According to Article 8 of the IPL Code of Conduct, Delhi Capitals had filed an appeal challenging the decision of the match referee. After this the appeal was sent to the BCCI Ombudsman for review. After this the Lokpal held a virtual hearing of this case. In which the decision of the match referee was considered final and binding.
