Ravi Shastri is the former coach of Team India.

Former Team India coach Ravi Shastri has demanded to reduce the number of teams to 6-7 to maintain the quality of Test cricket. Shastri was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of World Cricket Connects held at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Friday.

He said that to maintain the quality of Test cricket, there is a need to make changes in it. If there is no quality the rating falls. He said that you have 12 test match teams. Cut it down to six or seven and create a promotion and relegation system. You can create two tiers, but keep the top six playing to maintain interest in Test cricket.

Test is suffering losses due to domestic T20 league
Shastri said that due to the increase in the number of domestic T20 leagues, players are being forced to play in such leagues rather than Tests.

Shastri had earlier said that there should be no bilateral T20 cricket in the ICC calendar and the ICC should only hold the World Cup in the shortest format of the game.

Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) president Mark Nicholls said Test cricket is a league in itself, but the game needs money to sustain itself in the long run. He said that every player wants to play T-20 cricket today. This is where there are more fans and money.
