PV Sindhu settles for silver in Malaysia Masters suffers defeat in final against China Wang Zhiyi

Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu missed out on winning the title after losing to China’s Wang Zhang in the Malaysia Masters final on Sunday (May 26). In the final, Wang Zhang defeated Sindhu 21-16, 5-21, 16-21. Sindhu had made a great start by winning the first game but after that she lost consecutive games and lost the match. Sindhu had earlier won the 2022 Singapore Open and was the runner-up at the Madrid Spain Masters last year.

Earlier on Saturday, PV Sindhu had secured a place in the final of Malaysia Masters Badminton by registering a spectacular victory after falling behind against Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan. Fifth seed Sindhu, who had failed to win a single title in the last two years, defeated world number 20 Busanan 13-21, 21-16, 21- in a marathon match that lasted 88 minutes in the semi-finals of the BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament. Won by 12.
