What is the classical format in chess?
Rapid, Blitz and Classical are the formats of chess. Classical game means the player has to make the initial 40 moves within 90 minutes. Winning a game gives one point, while in case of a draw each player is given half a point. After 2 classical games, the player with more points is declared the winner.
If there are equal points after 2 classical games, the winner is decided by rapid round. The rapid round consists of four games of 15 minutes each. In this too, one point is given for winning each game and half a point in case of a tie. If a champion is not decided by the rapid round, then blitz chess is played. There is a game of 3-3 minutes in blitz format. The player who wins in this is declared the champion.
In the Rapid format, each player must complete all the moves within 10 to 60 minutes, and in the Blitz, each player must complete all the moves in a time limit of 10 minutes or less.
