Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday spoke to the athletes who won medals in the Paralympics and congratulated them on winning medals in the games. India has won a total of five medals at the Paris Paralympic Games till Sunday. Shooter Avani Lekhara gave India its first gold. Avani won the gold medal in the women’s 10 meter air rifle (SH1) event at the Paris Paralympics, while India’s Mona Agarwal made the day memorable by winning the bronze medal in this event.

Manish Narwal missed out on a gold medal in the men’s 10m air pistol (SH1) event but Preeti Pal won the bronze medal in the women’s T35 category 100m event with a personal best timing of 14.21 seconds to give India a place in the track event at the Paralympics. Avani could not repeat her historic gold medal winning performance in the 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 and despite a good start, failed to make the finals with a total score of 628.8 points. Siddharth scored 628.3.
