PM Narendra Modi has praised Haryana wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who was disqualified from the Paris Olympics due to 100 grams of weight gain. PM Modi said- Vinesh became the first Indian to reach the final in wrestling. This is also a matter of great pride for us.

The Indian contingent participating in the Paris Olympics met Prime Minister Modi on Thursday (15 August). This time India has won 1 silver and 5 bronze medals in the Paris Olympics. During this meeting, Prime Minister Modi praised all the athletes.
Vinesh Phogat is currently in Paris. She will land at Delhi airport tomorrow i.e. on 17th August at 10.30 am. After which she will first go to her village Balali in Charkhi Dadri. What happened in Vinesh Phogat’s case…
1. Defeated 3 wrestlers in 1 day in Olympics
Vinesh Phogat played 3 matches in 50 kg weight category on Tuesday. In the pre-quarterfinals she defeated Tokyo Olympic champion Yui Susaki. She defeated Ukraine’s wrestler in the quarter-finals and Cuban’s wrestler in the semi-finals. Vinesh became the first Indian female wrestler to reach the finals.
2. Weight gain due to diet, whole night efforts went in vain
By the semi-finals Vinesh’s weight increased to 52.700 kg. Vinesh did not sleep the whole night and kept doing exercises like jogging, skipping and cycling to bring her weight in the prescribed category. Vinesh had even cut her hair and nails. Even drew blood.
3. I gained 100 grams more weight, had only 15 minutes to lose weight
Before the Olympic final, Vinesh’s weight was checked again as per the rules. He turned out to be overweight. She got 15 minutes but in the last weigh-in she was found to be 100 grams more. After which he was declared ineligible.
4. Vinesh appealed against her disqualification
After this, Vinesh appealed in the Court of Sports (CAS) against her disqualification. In which Vinesh appealed to let the final match be played. This was not possible so Vinesh changed her appeal and said that her weight till the semi-finals was as per the rules. He should be given a combined silver medal.

5. Vinesh announced her retirement
Vinesh Phogat announced her retirement from wrestling. He wrote the social media post at 5.17 am on Thursday. Vinesh wrote – “Mother, wrestling won from me, I lost. Sorry your dream, my courage is all broken. I don’t have more strength than this now. Goodbye wrestling 2001-2024, I will always be indebted to you all. …sorry.” “
6. Petition rejected in sports court
Vinesh’s petition to award joint silver medal was rejected by the sports court. It was revealed that 3 out of 5 members of the jury were in favor of Vinesh but the World Wrestling Federation did not agree to change the rules from this year due to the argument of 100 grams exemption or the weight being correct in the previous matches.

7. Vinesh became emotional after the appeal was rejected
Yesterday, on August 15, Vinesh gave her first reaction on being disqualified from the Olympics and her appeal being rejected in the Sports Court. Vinesh posted her crying photo on social media. Behind which the Punjabi song “Meri Baari Te Lagde, Tu Rabba Sutta Hi Reh Gaya” was played.
