‘When she was born she had no fingers. There was only half a thumb.’
Now British archer Jodie Grinham, who has the same half thumb, has won the bronze medal in the Paris Paralympics. This is the first time in the history of Paralympic Games that a pregnant athlete has won a medal.
Grinham, 31, is 7 months pregnant. She is also the mother of a 2 year old child. Grinham lost during the semi-final match due to the baby’s movement which was causing a lot of trouble to her.
Grinham said after the victory- ‘It was not easy. My baby hasn’t stopped kicking. As if shouting, Mother, what are you doing? But I knew I could compete. I will make as good a shot as I can. Whether there is a child in the womb or not, I can win the medal.
Grinham said after winning the medal – Hopefully my achievement will inspire many other women.
Was in the hospital last week, reached the podium before the child was born
Before winning a medal at the Paralympics, Jodie spent the last weekend in a hospital in Paris because her baby was not moving. His child’s heart was being monitored continuously. During this training, she was also preparing for the sudden movement of the child. She will now be able to tell her child that he had reached the podium even before he came into the world.
After the medal was confirmed, Grinham had tears of joy in her eyes.
Could not become a mother after getting pregnant thrice
Grinham’s journey to reach this medal was not easy. She could not become a mother after getting pregnant thrice. In such a situation, doing archery during pregnancy is not only physically but also mentally difficult.
Grinham became pregnant three times, but could not become a mother.

British Archer Grinham won the gold medal in the Tokyo Paralympics. He also won the bronze medal in Rio Paralympics.
Jody Grinham has won a medal in the third consecutive Paralympics.
