Dharambir won gold medal in club throw.
Today is the eighth day of the Paris Paralympics. Indian players will participate in many sports today including Judo, Shooting, Archery and Athletics. Indian judoka Kapil Parmar lost in the semi-finals of the men’s 60 kg J1 category. He was defeated by Khoram Banitaba of Iran 10–0 in the semi-finals.
India’s total number of medals in the Paris Games has reached 24. These include 5 gold, 9 silver and 10 bronze. At present, India is at number 13 in the medal tally. This is the best performance of Indian para players in Paralympic history. India had won 19 medals in the Tokyo Games.
India won its 24th medal on Wednesday night. In the final match of club throw which lasted till 2 pm, Dharambir Singh won the gold medal and Pranav Surma won the silver medal. Earlier, archer Harvinder Singh had won gold and shot putter Sachin Sarjerao had won silver. On the 7th day of the Games, Indian players won 2 gold and 2 silver medals.
India won gold and silver in club throw
India won gold and silver medals in the men’s F-51 category club throw event on Wednesday. Still missed the clean sweep. Late night, Dharambir Singh won the gold medal with the best throw of 34.92 meters and Pranav Surma won the silver medal with the best throw of 34.59 meters. Serbia’s Jeliko Dimitrijevic won the bronze medal with a best throw of 34.18 metres.
In the club throw event, India could have won all three medals by making a clean sweep, but Amit Kumar fouled 4 throws in 6 attempts. His two throws were correct, in which the best could go only 23.96 meters. Due to which Amit remained at number 10. The F-51 category includes athletes who have missing limbs, leg length differences, decreased muscle strength, or decreased range of motion.
Dharambir Singh made a throw of 34.92 meters in the final.
Harvinder becomes the first Indian to win Archery Gold
Harvinder Singh became the first Indian to win the gold medal for archery in the Paralympic Games. Harvinder was ranked 9th in the ranking round of Men’s Individual Recurve Open. In the round of 32, he defeated Lung-Hui Tseng of Chinese Taipei 7–3. Harvinder defeated Setiawan 6-2 in the pre-quarterfinals.
Harvinder won the quarterfinals 6-2 against Julio Hector Ramirez of Colombia. In the semi-finals, Harvinder defeated Mohammad Reza of Iran 7-3. He then defeated Poland’s Lukasz Cizek in the final 6–0 and won the gold medal.
PM Narendra Modi congratulated Harvinder on X. He wrote- ‘Special gold in Para Archery. Congratulations to Harvinder Singh on winning gold in Men’s Individual Recurve Open. His focus, target and spirit were amazing. India is very happy with your victory.
Sachin won today’s first medal
Sachin Sarjerao won the first medal on the 7th day of Paralympics in shot put. He won silver in the Men’s F-46 category with an Asian record of 16.32. The F46 category is for athletes who have weakness in their hands, weak muscles or lack of movement in their hands.
