PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi said that now only 20% work will be done by the selection committee.

The selection of players in Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is now being done with the help of Artificial Intelligence i.e. AI. PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi said on Tuesday that 80% of the 150 players of the Champions Cup were selected by computers. Pakistan decided to start a new domestic tournament of ODI format, Champions Cup, this year. Top 150 players of the country will participate in this. The tournament will run from 12 to 29 September.

5 mentors of Champions Cup announced
Naqvi on Tuesday selected 5 different mentors for 5 teams of Champions Cup. Misbah Ul-Haq, Saqlain Mushtaq, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Shoaib Malik and Waqar Younis will be the mentors of the five teams. Everyone’s contract will be for 3 years. However, the names of the squads and teams have not been finalized yet.(Pakistan Cricket Players Selection)

The Champions Cup will be played at the Iqbal Stadium from September 12 to 29. The last 50-over domestic tournament in Pakistan was held in March 2022.(Pakistan Cricket Players Selection)

Naqvi said – replacement of senior player is not ready
During the selection of the five mentors, Naqvi said, “Pakistan’s domestic cricket will be strengthened with the arrival of the Champions Cup. We will have a pool of 150 best players, out of which the top players will get a chance in the national team. Anyway, the selection committee had to do a major surgery, this surgery will be easier after the Champions Cup.

Naqvi said – 80% players were selected by computer
Naqvi further said, “150 players were selected for the Champions Cup. Out of which 80% were selected by AI, while only 20% were selected by the selection committee. Now no one can challenge this selection. We have given 20% to the selection committee. Only given importance.

If the committee selects a bad player in place of a senior player, then you (the audience) will be the first to raise questions. We have records and we tried our best to maintain transparency in team selection.”(Pakistan Cricket Players Selection)

Mohsin Naqvi said in a press conference with Azhar Mahmood that AI has selected the players in the Champions Cup.

Champions Cup will yield good players
Naqvi further said, “The Champions Cup will end in September itself, after which we will have the record of the best players. The players who do not perform will be replaced immediately. Pakistan will play England after Champions Cup
Naqvi did not clarify how the Pakistan cricket team would be selected after the Champions Cup. However, after the tournament the team will play a 3-Test series against England.
