The Government of Odisha has announced the extension of its sponsorship for the men’s and women’s Indian hockey teams (senior and junior) for three more years. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Mohan Majhi on Friday announced to increase sponsorship of Indian hockey keeping in mind ‘Vision Odisha 2036’. Odisha has been the official sponsor of both the men’s and women’s national hockey teams since 2018.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Mohan Majhi also informed about the decision to extend Odisha’s sponsorship for Indian hockey for the next three years. He said the decision has been taken to mark and celebrate the 100th year of the state’s formation and keeping in mind the possibility of Gujarat hosting the 2036 Olympics.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Mohan Majhi said, “In 2036, Odisha will complete 100 years of formation and Gujarat will also be likely to host the Olympics this year. Odisha has played an important role in the rise of hockey and with the expansion of sponsorship, it can prove to be a game changer for the state in the field of sports.
The Hockey India team, led by president Dilip Tirkey and secretary Bhola Nath Singh, met Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Friday and emphasized how Odisha got a new identity because of hockey and carved a niche for itself in the sports landscape. .
Odisha has been the official sponsor of both the men’s and women’s national hockey teams since 2018. In April last year, the Naveen Patnaik government had announced the extension of the sponsorship agreement of both men’s and women’s national teams (senior and junior) for 10 more years (worth Rs 434.12 crore from 2023 to 2033).
Odisha government has promoted hockey a lot. Odisha has hosted several tournaments including two FIH Hockey Men’s World Cups. The state government has also built the world’s largest hockey stadium in Rourkela with a seating capacity of 20,000 spectators.
