India concluded its historic Paris Paralympic campaign with a total of 29 medals. India had never won even 20 medals in a Paralympics, but in this the number of medals reached 29. Indian athletes won seven gold, nine silver and 13 bronze medals. This is the highest number of medals for India in the history of this competition.

India had earlier won 19 medals in the Tokyo Paralympics. Out of 19, there were 5 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze medals. This time India increased the number of medals in all three and created a new record. This performance was praised by Tokyo Olympics gold medalist and Paris Olympics silver medalist Neeraj Chopra. Neeraj Chopra congratulated the Indian team on his Proud.”

Due to this record breaking performance, India also crossed the mark of 50 medals in the history of the competition. 84 para-athletes from India represented the tricolor in 12 sports of the Paralympics, which ran from 28 August to Sunday 8 September. At the same time, India participated in only 9 sports in Tokyo 2020. India also participated in new sports in Paris, which were Paracycling, Para Rowing and Blind Judo. However, India did not get any medals in these. Para-shooter Avani Lekhara became the first Indian woman to win two Paralympic gold medals. She defended her gold medal in women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 shooting with a world record score of 249.7 points, which she had won at the Tokyo Games.
