Reliance Jio has deposited Rs 3,000 crore as Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) for the 5G spectrum auction, which is 3 times more than Bharti Airtel Limited, among the top-3 telecom companies, and 10 times more than Vodafone Idea (Vi). Is too much.
According to the Department of Telecom (DoT), Bharti Airtel deposited Rs 1,050 crore and Vodafone Idea (Vi) deposited Rs 300 crore. Spectrum rights will be given in the auction for 20 years. Companies will have to pay in installments every year.
Vodafone and Airtel will have to renew their licenses.
Jio has deposited the maximum amount for the auction to be held on June 6, while none of its licenses are coming up for renewal. At the same time, both Airtel and VI will have to renew airwaves in some circles in the upcoming auction.
In the upcoming auction, Airtel needs to renew airwaves in Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Bihar, UP (East), West Bengal and Assam. At the same time, Vodafone Idea, which recently raised funds through FPO, will have to renew its spectrum in West Bengal and UP West circles.
Auction will be held at the base price of Rs 96.31 thousand crores
According to the news agency, the government will auction 8 spectrum bands for mobile phone services. This includes the 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2500 MHz, 3300 MHz and 26 GHz bands.
All the available spectrum will be put in the auction at a base price of Rs 96,317.65 crore. In this auction, in addition to the existing spectrum, some companies going through bankruptcy will also be kept the spectrum which is expiring on completion of the period in 2024.
Jio had spent ₹88,078 crore in the last auction
In the 2022 auction, Jio had spent the most on 5G spectrum at Rs 88,078 crore. After this, Airtel spent Rs 43,084 crore and Vodafone Idea spent Rs 18,799 crore.
In the 2022 spectrum auction, the government had offered 72,097.85 MHz spectrum with a validity of 20 years. At the same time, the name of Adani Group company suddenly appeared among the bidders. However, there is no new name in this auction.
DoT expects to get Rs 10,000 crore
The Department of Telecom (DoT) does not expect a very good response from the telecom operators in the auction this time. This is because last year itself companies had purchased a lot of spectrum.
The focus of the companies will be on topup of the spectrum which is in their operation and is about to expire. The telecom department is expected to get around Rs 10,000 crore from the auction.
What is spectrum and how does it work?
Airwaves are radio frequencies within the electromagnetic spectrum that can carry information wirelessly for many services, including telecommunications.
The government manages and allocates these airwaves. The spectrum can be divided into bands ranging from low frequency to high frequency.
High-frequency waves carry more data and are faster than low-frequency waves, but they can be easily blocked or obstructed. Lower-frequency waves can provide wider coverage.
Fifth generation of internet 5G
The fifth generation of internet network is called 5G. It is a wireless broadband internet service, which provides high speed internet service through waves. There are mainly three types of frequency bands in it.
- Low frequency band- best in area coverage, internet speed 100 Mbps, internet speed less
- Mid Frequency Band- Internet speed more than low band 1.5 Gbps, area coverage less than low frequency band, good in terms of signal
- High Frequency Band- Internet speed is maximum 20 Gbps, area cover is minimum, good in terms of signal also.
Work will become easier with the introduction of 5G
A lot is going to change in India with the launch of 5G internet service. This will not only make people’s work easier, but will also change a lot in the entertainment and communication sector. Ericsson, the company working for 5G, believes that in 5 years the number of 5G internet users in India is going to exceed 50 crores.
What will be the benefits of starting 5G?
- The first benefit will be that users will be able to use high speed internet.
- There will be a big change in the field of video gaming with the arrival of 5G.
- Will be able to stream videos without buffering or stopping.
- In internet calls, the voice will come without interruption and clearly.
- A 2 GB movie will be downloaded in 10 to 20 seconds.
- In the agricultural sector, drone use will be possible in the supervision of fields.
- It will be easy to operate metro and driverless vehicles.
- It will be easier to use robots in virtual reality and factories.
