Jay Shah was holding the post of BCCI Secretary since 2019. Now he became ICC Chairman.
India’s Jay Shah has become the new chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). ICC said that Shah was elected chairman unopposed. Shah will take over as chairman on December 1. He is currently the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Now BCCI will have to make a new posting on the post of Secretary.(Jay Shah becomes the new chairman of ICC)
Barclay’s tenure will end on November 30
The tenure of the current ICC chairman Greg Barclay of New Zealand will end on November 30. The ICC had told on August 20 that Barclay would not become chairman for the third consecutive time. Shah was the only candidate
The last date to file nomination for the post of ICC Chairman was today itself. Apart from Jai Shah, no candidate filed nomination for the post. Due to which Shah was elected ICC Chairman unopposed. Shah is also currently the chairman of the ICC’s finance and commerce sub-committee.
Shah said- Thanks for choosing me as chairman.
Jay Shah said, “Thank you to everyone for electing me as the Chairman of ICC. I will continue to work to grow cricket globally. At present, it is important to promote multiple formats of cricket. Shah further said, “Cricket’s inclusion in the Olympics in 2028 is a big achievement. We will give it global recognition through the Olympics and will try to take it to more countries.”
Jay Shah will be the 5th Indian Chief of ICC
Before Shah, 4 Indians have held the post of ICC Chief. Jagmohan Dalmiya was the chairman of ICC from 1997 to 2000, Sharad Pawar from 2000 to 2012, N Srinivasan from 2014 to 2015 and Shashank Manohar from 2015 to 2020. Before 2015, the ICC Chief was called President. Now it came to be called Chairman.
Jay Shah will become the fifth Indian to become ICC President when he assumes office on December 1. 35-year-old Shah will also become the youngest chairman of ICC.

Shah will leave the post of secretary
Jay Shah will now have to leave the post of BCCI Secretary, he cannot hold 2 posts simultaneously in ICC and BCCI. Bhaskar himself had told on Tuesday that the name of Delhi Cricket Association President Rohan Jaitley is coming forward for the post of Secretary. Sources said that Jaitley will be the next Secretary of BCCI.
