Team India made it to the finals of the T20 World Cup by defeating first Australia and then England. The team will play the title match against South Africa in Barbados on June 29. India avenged the defeat of Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final and England in the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final and eliminated both of them from the tournament by defeating them.
Not 1 or 2, but 9 players had an important contribution in India’s 7 consecutive victories. The performance of the remaining three players who were part of the team’s playing-11 may not have been that good, but these players definitely made important contributions to the team on some occasions.
Won 7 matches, 6 players were player of the match
India is invincible in this T-20 World Cup, the team won 3-3 matches in the group and Super-8 stage. The group match against Canada remained inconclusive, while the team defeated England in the semi-finals. In these 7 matches, 6 different players were player of the match.
India did not experiment much in the tournament and gave chances to only 12 players in 8 matches. Kuldeep Yadav was brought in place of Mohammad Siraj, who played the first 3 matches. Kuldeep played the subsequent 4 matches. Apart from India, only South Africa tried the least number of 12 players in the tournament. Both the teams reached the finals, all the other teams gave chances to 13, 14 or 15 players.
Now let us know the performance in the tournament of the players who took India to the final of the T20 World Cup after 10 years…
1. Top-3 Batters
- Rohit Sharma: Captain Rohit scored a fifty against Ireland on the difficult pitch of New York. He continued his attacking role for the next 4 matches, but was unsuccessful. Rohit then scored 92 runs on 41 balls against Australia and laid the foundation for the Kangaroo team to be eliminated from the tournament. He also scored an important fifty in the semi-finals and made a match-winning 75-run partnership with Surya. The captain is also the top run scorer of the team.
- Suryakumar Yadav: Suryakumar could not do anything special against Ireland and Pakistan, but against America he took over the team after the first 3 wickets fell. Surya scored a fifty and led the team to victory. He became the player of the match by scoring a half-century against Afghanistan, but could not do anything special against Bangladesh. Surya scored 31 runs on 16 balls against Australia and 47 runs on 36 balls against England and took the team to a big score. He is close to scoring 200 runs in the tournament.
- Rishabh Pant: Wicketkeeper Pant could not do anything special against Australia and England, but played an important role in the victory by playing innings of 42 runs against Pakistan and 36-36 runs against Ireland-Bangladesh on a difficult pitch. He even took 3 important catches against Pakistan. Pant has taken maximum 11 catches in the tournament, he has also done one stumping.
2. Top-3 all-rounders
- Hardik Pandya: Vice captain Hardik performed well in batting, bowling as well as fielding. Took 3 wickets against Ireland and 2-2 wickets against Pakistan and America. After good bowling in the group stage, Hardik played important innings of 32 runs against Afghanistan, 27 against Australia and 23 against England. Against Bangladesh, he scored a fifty in just 27 balls and took one wicket, for this performance he became the player of the match.
- Akshar Patel: Player of the match of the semi-finals, Akshar proved to be India’s second best all-rounder and second best spinner in the tournament. Before taking 3 wickets against England, he had taken 1-1 wicket in every match except Bangladesh. He has bowled only 18 overs and taken 8 wickets in the tournament with an economy of 6.88. Apart from this, he has also scored 45 runs in the lower order at a strike rate of 128.57. Against Australia, he jumped in the air at deep square leg position and took an excellent catch of Mitchell Marsh with one hand, which proved to be the turning point.
- Shivam Dubey: Dubey got a chance to bowl one over against America, in which he gave 11 runs. Apart from this, he did not bowl any over in the tournament. However, he played short but useful innings against Bangladesh (34), America (31*) and Australia (28). These scores may not be that big, but they were very important in the team’s victory. However, even better performance is expected from him.
3. Top-3 bowlers
- Arshdeep Singh: Arshdeep could not take any wicket in the semi-finals, but before this he definitely took at least one wicket in every match. He got only one success against Pakistan, but against Ireland and Bangladesh he took 2 wickets each. He proved to be a bit expensive against Afghanistan and Australia, but also took 3 wickets each. Against America, Arshdeep took 4 wickets for just 9 runs and was the player of the match. This was also the best bowling of any Indian in the history of T20 World Cup.
- Jasprit Bumrah: Bumrah, who returned after injury in the ODI World Cup, is the most important and important player of Team India. In the 25.4 overs bowled so far, he has spent runs at an economy of just 4.12. He is taking one wicket in every 12th ball and giving 8 runs. Bumrah, who was the player of the match against Ireland and Pakistan, is the second top wicket taker of the team with a total of 13 wickets.
- Kuldeep Yadav: Kuldeep, who missed 4 matches of the group stage, played his first match in the Super-8. He could play only 4 matches till the semi-finals, but till now he has taken 10 wickets at an economy of 5.87. Against England, he took 3 wickets for just 19 runs. Kuldeep was not the player of the match even once, but his impact was immense. He took 2-2 wickets against Australia-Bangladesh and 3 wickets against Afghanistan. Kuldeep is achieving one success in every 10th ball and giving 9 runs.
4. Contribution of these players is important, but expectations are higher
- Virat Kohli: Team India experimented in the tournament and sent the opening batsman to Kohli, who was at number-3. He failed miserably in this position and could only score 1, 4 and 0 in the first 3 innings. Then in Super-8 he scored 24 runs against Afghanistan and 37 runs against Bangladesh. It seemed as if Virat was back in form, but he was out without opening the account against Australia. Even against England he could score only 9 runs. It is clear from this that he is not liking the opening in the West Indies, although Kohli, who was the player of the tournament twice in the T20 World Cup, definitely has the last chance to prove himself against South Africa in the final.
- Ravindra Jadeja: Till now he got a chance to bowl only 13 overs, in which he took one wicket against Afghanistan. Didn’t get much chance to bowl, but he created pressure and spent runs at an economy of just 6.88. He could play only 20 balls in 4 innings, but scored the highest runs in the team at a strike rate of 165. Against England, he formed an important partnership with Hardik and Akshar. However, even better performance is expected from the experienced Jadeja in bowling and batting.
- Mohammed Siraj: Siraj played as the third pacer of the team in the first 3 matches of the group stage. He bowled 11 overs and gave runs at an excellent economy of 5.18. He got only one wicket, but he managed to create continuous pressure. He had to sit on the bench due to spin-friendly pitches in West Indies, Kuldeep Yadav was included in the team in his place.
