T20 World Cup 2024 champion team India is stuck in Barbados due to storm Beryl. The Indian team had to fly to New York to come to India on Monday i.e. today. But, the team’s schedule has been disrupted due to bad weather.
The report said that Hurricane Beryl coming in the Atlantic is blowing at a speed of 210 km per hour. This Category 4 storm was approximately 570 km east-southeast of Barbados and due to this, operations at the airport are currently halted. The situation is such that the airport may have to be closed for a day.
However, there has been no official statement on this from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
There may be a delay in returning to India
A source told PTI that as per the schedule, the team was to go from here (Bridgetown) to New York and then reach India via Dubai. But now the plan is to take a chartered flight directly from here to Delhi. After reaching there, a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also being considered. There are around 70 members including supporting staff, families and officials.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had congratulated the players over the phone on Sunday. He congratulated Rohit for his excellent captaincy.
Virat Kohli’s innings in the final and his contribution to Indian cricket were also praised.
Team India became world champion on June 29
The team won the T-20 World Cup on 29 June. The Indian team has become champion in this tournament after 17 years. Not only this, India has ended the 11-year ICC trophy drought. India defeated South Africa by 7 runs in the final match at Barbados.
