Financial situation was not good, so father wanted to teach
The financial condition of Vivek’s family, resident of Chandaun village of Itarsi, was not good, hence his father did not like him playing hockey. He wanted Vivek to concentrate on his studies and become an engineer, but Vivek was obsessed with playing hockey. He used to come to Itarsi from Chandaun and learn to play hockey on the ground. Many times he would practice by taking sticks from friends.
Seeing his dedication, his mother Kamla Devi, elder brother Vidyasagar, sister Poonam and Pooja started supporting him. While playing in a tournament, Vivek was noticed by Ashok Kumar, son of hockey magician Major Dhyanchand. Seeing Vivek’s game, he had offered to join MP Academy.
At the age of 13, Vivek joined the Hockey Academy. However, later the father also supported Vivek a lot. After coming to the academy, Vivek’s game started improving further.
