Wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who missed out on a medal at the Paris Olympics after being disqualified for being 100 grams overweight, celebrated Rakshabandhan in her native village Balali on Monday. During this, Vinesh tied Rakhi on the wrist of her brother Harendra Phogat.

Brother Harendra Phogat gave a bundle of Rs 500 notes to Vinesh Phogat as a sign of good fortune. A video of this has also surfaced. In which Vinesh Phogat is seen laughing and joking while showing the Rakhi tied on her brother’s hand.
In the video, Vinesh is seen laughing and saying, ‘I am about 30 years old. Earlier I used to get Rs 10. Last year my brother gave me Rs 500, but this time I have got this (showing a wad of Rs 500 notes). My brother has earned only this much in his life, which has come as my share.
Missed out on a medal after being disqualified
Let us tell you that this time Vinesh Phogat participated in 50KG freestyle wrestling in Paris Olympics. On August 6, he entered the finals after playing three matches in a single day and won the silver medal. Vinesh’s competition for the gold medal was to be held on the night of 7th August.
But the same morning, Vinesh was disqualified because her weight before the match was 100 grams more than the 50KG category. After which Vinesh announced her retirement from wrestling.
Grand welcome for Vinesh on her return to India
Vinesh had returned to India from Paris two days ago. To welcome Vinesh, a 125 km long road show was organized from New Delhi Airport to her village Balali, in which she was welcomed at more than 100 places.
He was garlanded with currency notes at many places. On reaching Balali village at night, she was given a grand welcome, in which Vinesh Phogat was showered with gifts as a mark of respect. Someone presented him a gold medal, while someone honored him with a garland of currency notes. Vinesh’s eyes filled with tears after seeing the grand welcome.
