Kamindu Mendis returned unbeaten after scoring 93 runs.

Till lunch on the second day of the second match being played between Sri Lanka and New Zealand in Galle, Sri Lanka has scored 402 runs after losing 5 wickets. Kamindu Mendis is unbeaten after scoring 93 runs.

On Friday, the team started playing ahead of the first day’s score of 306/3. Experienced Angelo Mathews was out after scoring 88 runs. Captain Dhananjay de Silva, who came to bat after him, played an inning of 44 runs. Glenn Phillips took maximum 3 wickets for New Zealand.

Day 2, first session On the first day of the match, Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat. From the team, Dinesh Chandimal scored a century, while Angelo Mathews and Kamindu Mendis scored fifties.

At the beginning of the second day, Angelo Mathews and Kamindu Mendis made a century partnership. Both of them together added 107 runs. Phillips broke the partnership by taking the wicket of Mathews, after this De Silva, who came to bat, added 74 runs with Mendis. De Silva was dismissed by Phillips on the score of 44 runs.

From New Zealand, Glenn Phillips took maximum 3 wickets and captain Tim Southee took 1 wicket. While Dimuth Karunaratne was run out after scoring 46 runs. By winning the first test, Sri Lanka has maintained a 1-0 lead in the 2-match series.

Score crossed century in the first session

Sri Lanka chose to bat first, but lost the wicket of Pathum Nissanka in the very first over. Nissanka could score only 1 run and was caught behind on Southee’s ball. From here Karunaratne formed a partnership with wicketkeeper Dinesh Chandimal. Both made century partnerships and did not allow the team to suffer any further setbacks in the first session.

Dimuth Karunaratne made a century partnership with Dinesh Chandimal.

Karunaratne out in the second session

Sri Lanka continued its innings in the second session with a score of 102/1. Karunaratne could not last long and was run out due to poor communication. He hit 4 fours on 109 balls and scored 46 runs. After him, Chandimal along with Angelo Mathews took the team close to 200 runs. Even before the end of the second session, Chandimal also completed his century.

Mendis’s fifty in the third session

Sri Lanka started play in the third session with a score of 194/2. Chandimal was bowled by Glenn Phillips after scoring 116 runs. With this his 97-run partnership with Mathews was broken. Mathews then along with Kamindu Mendis took the team to 306 runs.

By the end of the first day’s play, Mathews remained not out after scoring 78 runs and Kamindu remained not out after scoring 51 runs. Batsmen like captain Dhananjay de Silva, Kusal Mendis and Nishan Paris are yet to come from the team.(Galle Test: Sri Lanka 402/5 at lunch on day 2)

Kamindu Mendis made world record

Sri Lankan all-rounder Kamindu Mendis made a world record in his name when he scored fifty in the second test. He became the first player in the world to score fifty plus scores in 8 consecutive tests since debut. He has 4 centuries and 5 fifties in his name in 13 innings of 8 Tests. Kamindu left behind Pakistan’s Saud Shakeel, who had the record of scoring fifty plus scores in 7 consecutive tests after debut.
