The All-India Chess Federation announced a reward of Rs 3.2 crore for the Indian teams that created history by winning gold medals in the 45th Olympiad during a felicitation ceremony on Wednesday. AICF President Nitin Narang made this announcement during the felicitation ceremony. (

Players of India’s men’s and women’s winning teams will get Rs 25 lakh each while men’s and women’s team coaches Abhijeet Kunte and Srinath Narayanan will be given a reward of Rs 15 lakh each.

Grandmaster Divyendu Barua, head of the Indian team, will be given a reward of Rs 10 lakh and the assistant coach will be given a reward of Rs 7.5 lakh. “The hunger for gold medal has ended in Hungary but the desire for success continues,” Narang said during the award ceremony. India created history in the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest when both men’s and women’s teams won their first gold medals which is a major achievement in Indian chess. The men’s team comprising D Gukesh, Arjun Erigesi and R Praggnanandhaa dominated the entire tournament and defeated Slovenia in the final round. Gukesh won 10 out of 11 games, taking India to the top with 21 points out of a possible 22.(Chess Federation announced the reward)
