Another blow to India in US Open, Rohan-Aldila pair lost in mixed doubles semi-finals


India’s star tennis player Rohan Bopanna and his Indonesian partner Aldila Sutjiadi lost 3-6, 4-6 to the American pair of Donald Young and Taylor Townsend in the mixed doubles semi-finals. In this way this Indian-Indonesian pair was out of the US Open tennis tournament. With this, Indian hopes in the US Open have also ended. The India-Indonesia pair had earlier defeated Matthew Ebden and Czech Republic’s Barbora Krejcikova in the quarterfinal match that lasted more than 1 hour 30 minutes.

44 year old Bopanna was already out of men’s doubles. He and Ebden lost 1-6, 5-7 to 16th-seeded Argentinian pair of Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni in the third round. Earlier in the tournament, Sumit Nagal had lost in the first round of men’s singles, while Yuki Bhambri and N Sriram Balaji also bowed out after losing in separate rounds of men’s doubles.

Rohan-Aldila secured their semi-final ticket by defeating Matthew Ebden of Australia and Barbora Krejcikova of Czech Republic in a thrilling quarter-final match. Bopanna and Aldila had earlier defeated John Pierce of Australia and Katarina Siniakova of Czech Republic 0-6, 7-6(5), 10-7 in the second round match. 44-year-old Bopanna was already out of men’s doubles. India’s challenge in the men’s doubles of the US Open tennis tournament ended with the defeat of Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden in the third round. Bopanna and Ebden had won the men’s doubles title at the Australian Open earlier this year.
