Air India on Wednesday announced VRS for its permanent ground staff.
Air India News: Air India News: Amidst the merger with Vistara, Air India on Wednesday announced Voluntary Retirement Scheme i.e. VRS for its permanent ground staff. Besides, Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) has also been announced. It is reported that the VRS scheme is for those employees who have completed five years of service in the company. At the same time, VSS has been offered to employees with less than five years of service in the airline. Both the schemes were launched on Wednesday. The concerned employees were given one month time to apply for VRS/VSS.
An Air India official said the merged entity would require less ground staff and hence the process was being initiated. Let us tell you that Vistara and Air India are owned by the Tata Group. Their total number of employees is more than 23,000. Tata Group is working on a plan to merge its airlines to streamline its aviation business. This is affecting their employees.
What did Air India say?
According to a report in Business Standard, a message sent to ground staff by the airline said, “We are offering a Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) for employees with at least five years of continuous service in Air India and those with less than Announcing Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) for employees of Air India said that the window to participate in both these schemes will remain open till August 16. The airline said the “acceptance” and “release date” of the applications will be decided by the management. Let us tell you that VSS is such a scheme or proposal in which the employer asks the employee to resign voluntarily without any retrenchment and also gives him appropriate compensation.

600 employees affected!
Let us tell you that recently there was news that the merger of Air India and Vistara may affect about 600 employees of both the airlines. However, efforts will be made to employ them in other units within the Tata Group and Air India Group. Quoting sources, PTI had said that efforts will be made to provide employment to these employees affected by the merger process in other Tata group companies along with Air India. Voluntary Separation Scheme package will be introduced for those employees who are not able to adjust to any group. According to sources, the merger process is expected to be completed by the end of September or beginning of October. Only after this process is completed will the exact number of affected employees be known. Let us tell you that Tata Group took over the command of Air India in January, 2022.
