1. First Indian female wrestler to reach the Olympic finals
Vinesh Phogat played 3 matches in 50 kg weight category on Tuesday. In the pre-quarterfinals she defeated Tokyo Olympic champion Yui Susaki. She defeated Ukraine’s wrestler in the quarter-finals and Cuban’s wrestler in the semi-finals. Vinesh became the first Indian female wrestler to reach the finals.
After playing 3 matches till the semi-finals, he was fed food for protein and energy, due to which his weight increased to 52.700 kg.
2. Vinesh’s weight was 2.7 kg more
According to Indian Olympic team doctor Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, the team had only 12 hours to bring Vinesh’s weight back to 50KG. Vinesh did not sleep the whole night and kept doing exercises like jogging, skipping and cycling to bring her weight in the prescribed category. Vinesh had even cut her hair and nails. His clothes were also made smaller.

3. Only 15 minutes were given to lose weight, it was 100 grams more
Vinesh’s weight was checked again on Wednesday morning. After this, only 15 minutes were given as per rules, but Vinesh’s weight could not be reduced to 50KG in such a short time. When the weight was finally weighed, Vinesh’s weight was found to be 100 grams more than the prescribed limit. Vinesh’s health deteriorated after the Olympic Committee’s decision. He was admitted to the hospital.
4. Also appealed against the disqualification
Vinesh has filed an appeal against her disqualification on Wednesday night before announcing her retirement. They demanded from the Court of Arbitration for Sports that they should be jointly awarded the silver medal. Vinesh had also demanded to play the final first. Then they changed their appeal and now jointly demanded to be given silver.
5. Vinesh took retirement, posted on social media
Vinesh announced her retirement from wrestling on Thursday morning. He announced this on social media (X) at 5.17 am on Thursday. Vinesh wrote in a 5-line post – “Mother, wrestling won from me, I lost. Sorry your dream, my courage is all broken. I don’t have more strength than this now. Goodbye wrestling 2001-2024, I will always be indebted to you all. . …Forgiveness.”
6. Appeal rejected on 14 August
On August 14, the Court of Arbitration for Sports had rejected Vinesh Phogat’s petition. Vinesh Phogat had filed a petition demanding a silver medal.
