India will celebrate its 78th Independence Day on 15th August. This national festival is a poignant reminder of the unbearable sufferings and sacrifices endured by our freedom fighters. Thousands of patriots lost their lives in the long battle with the British. India shattered and drove out the 200 year long colonial British rule. South Korea and North Korea
National Liberation Day is also celebrated on 15 August in North and South Korea. On August 15, 1945, Korea got freedom from the oppressive rule of Japan. In Korea, this day is also known as ‘Gwangbokjeol’. Which means the time of light coming out. Three years after independence from Japanese forces, independent Korean governments were formed in North and South Korea.

The Middle East country Bahrain got independence from the United Kingdom on 15 August 1971. It was one of the first Gulf countries to discover oil and build a refinery in 1931. That same year, Britain and the Ottoman government signed a treaty recognizing the country’s independence, but Bahrain remained under British administration. Bahrain signed a friendship treaty with the British after declaring independence in 1971. Independence was declared on 14th August but the people of Bahrain celebrate their Independence Day on 15th August.

Republic of Congo is also known as ‘Congolese National Day’. This African nation got complete independence from France on 15 August 1960. This African nation remained under French rule for 80 years. From 1969 to 1992 it was a Marxist–Leninist nation, and has held multi-party elections since then.

Liechtenstein, the sixth smallest country in the world, celebrates its independence on 15 August 1866. This country got independence from Germany. Since 1940, this day has been declared a national day in Liechtenstein with traditional celebrations. Thousands of Liechtenstein citizens participate in huge celebrations here on this day.
