,
Initially, it was reported that the verdict would be announced on August 11, but later it was postponed to August 13.
Arguments were given in the court in favor of Vinesh that the wrestler did not commit any fraud. After reaching the final, she was a confirmed contender for the silver medal.
Regarding Vinesh’s decision, Neeraj Chopra, who won the silver medal in Javelin, said, “If we do not get the medal, then people remember us for some time and say that we are their champions, but if we do not get the medal, then they do not remember us.” Forgets.
Let us tell you that Vinesh Phogat had wrestled in the 50 kg weight category in the Olympics. She reached the finals by defeating 3 wrestlers including Japan’s Olympic champion in one day. However, the next day before the final match, his weight turned out to be 100 grams more.
Due to which he was declared ineligible. Vinesh filed an appeal in the sports court regarding this. On which the hearing took place.
The hearing in the sports court has been completed
The hearing on Vinesh Phogat’s petition has been completed in the Sports Court in Paris. Vinesh also participated in this in a virtual manner. Vinesh presented her side for about an hour. There was debate for about 3 hours. Indian lawyers Harish Salve and Vidushpat Singhania also presented their side on behalf of Vinesh.
Dr. Annabel Bennett heard the side of Vinesh, United World Wrestling, International Olympic Committee and IOA for about 3 hours. Before this, everyone was also asked to file their affidavit. After which this oral debate took place.
These arguments were also put forward in favor of Vinesh
In the sports court, it was said in Vinesh’s favor that 100 grams of weight is very less. It is not more than 0.1% to 0.2% of the athlete’s weight. It can also easily increase due to the swelling of the human body during the summer season because due to the heat, more water accumulates in the body due to the human need to survive.
Apart from this, Vinesh had to compete in 3 competitions in a single day. During this time, he also had to eat to maintain energy.
Apart from this, the Indian side said that due to the distance between the sports village and the arena of the Olympic Games and the tight schedule of the fight on the first day, Vinesh did not get enough time to lose weight. Vinesh’s weight had reached 52.7 kg after wrestling 3 times on the first day.
The Indian side also said that Vinesh’s weight gain of 100 grams would not have given her any advantage over other wrestlers. This was simply the result of a necessary recovery process. After fighting 3 consecutive matches in a day, his body also needed diet.
The Indian side also argued that there is no fraud or misappropriation in Vinesh Phogat’s case. Nor is there any issue like doping.
Vinesh should not be deprived of the silver medal despite her hard work because she fought well in all the first matches and was disqualified in the final.
Indian Olympic Association said- positive result is expected
Regarding this, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) said- Indian Olympic Association expects positive results. President PT Usha said- It is our duty to support Vinesh. Whatever the decision, we stand with Vinesh.
