The British Museum houses a vast collection of artefacts from around the world, including remains of ancient civilisations. In a recent video posted on YouTube, the oldest map of the world present in the museum was shown. Irving Finkel, linguist and curator in the Middle East department of the museum, said that this is a map of the Babylonian civilization. This is the oldest known map of the world. It was written and created on the soil of Mesopotamia about 3000 thousand years ago. “It’s in many pieces and what we have right now is incomplete,” Irving said. My student Edith Horsley and I found a missing piece of the map, but it is still incomplete.
