Won medal in skating

Manu Bhaker was born on 18 February 2002. His father Ram Kishan Bhakar is in the Merchant Navy. Before shooting, Manu has tried herself in Karate, Thang Ta, Tanta, Skating, Swimming and Tennis. Manu is a national medalist in Karate, Thang Ta and Tanta. Tanta is a 3-time national champion. Has won state medal in skating. He played swimming and tennis in school.

One day Manu was roaming in the shooting range with her father. Suddenly Manu started shooting. He hit target number 10 right in the middle. Seeing this, the father encouraged Manu to take up shooting and bought him a gun. National coach Yashpal Rana taught Manu the tricks of shooting.

Worked hard 8 hours a day, did not attend any celebration
Manu Bhaker has prepared a lot for the Paris Olympics. Manu used to practice for more than 8 hours daily. She would sleep with the pistol by her bedside. Manu Bhaker has won about 20 medals including Youth Olympics, World Championship and Asiad. To bring a medal in the Olympics, she has neither gone to any birthday party nor participated in anyone’s celebration for 4 years.

Manu’s mother Sumedha Bhakar says that “Manu cannot do anything more than this for the Olympic medal, if she does not win the medal now then she will lose faith in God also.”

Manu Bhaker won a bronze medal in the women’s 25m pistol at the 2022 Cairo World Championships and a gold medal in the same event at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou. In the year 2023, he won the silver medal in 25 meter shooting in the ISSF World Cup Championship held in Bhopal.

Manu finished fifth in the women’s 25m pistol event at the Asian Shooting Championships 2023 in Changwan, securing a Paris 2024 Olympic quota for India.

Manu’s achievements in shooting

  • At the 2017 National Shooting Championship, Manu Bhaker stunned Olympian and former world number-1 Heena Sidhu and created a new record with a score of 242.3. Due to this, he defeated Heena in the final of 10 meter air pistol. Apart from this, he won the silver medal in the 2017 Asian Junior Championship.
  • Making her International Sports Shooting Federation (ISSF) World Cup debut in Guadalajara, Mexico, Manu Bhaker broke the junior world record in the qualification round to reach the women’s 10m air pistol final.
  • In her debut, Manu won the gold medal, leaving behind Olympic gold medalist Anna Korakaki, three-time World Cup medalist Celine Goberville and local favorite Alejandra Zavala. Manu scored a total of 237.5 points to win the gold medal.
  • Manu became the youngest Indian to win a gold medal in the ISSF World Cup at the age of just 16. Apart from this, he targeted gold in the mixed doubles event along with his partner Om Prakash Mitherwal. Manu won gold medals in individual and mixed team events in 10 meter air pistol.
  • Just a month later, the 2018 Commonwealth Games were held in Gold Coast, Australia, where she created a new record and won the gold medal in the Women’s 10 meter Air Pistol.
  • After this, in her second ISSF Junior World Cup, she won another gold medal in 10 meter air pistol, won the bronze medal in the mixed team event, while she was out of the medal race in the 25 meter pistol event.
  • She didn’t win a medal at the 2018 Asian Games but Manu Bhaker ended the year by creating history at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She won gold in the 10m air pistol, becoming the first Indian shooter to do so. Apart from this, Manu Bhaker became the first female Indian athlete to win a gold medal in the Youth Olympics.
  • Manu Bhaker finished fourth in the 2019 Munich World Cup, along with which she also secured the Olympic quota. He won gold and silver medals in 10m air pistol and bronze medal in 25m air pistol at the 2021 New Delhi ISSF World Cup.
