Pakistan may lose the hosting of the proposed Champions Trophy in February-March next year. This can be announced in the important meeting of ICC (International Cricket Council) from July 19 in Colombo.
India has decided not to play in Pakistan. In such a situation, the entire tournament may be in trouble. According to sources, now the Champions Trophy is likely to be held in Sri Lanka or Dubai. According to sources in Sri Lanka Cricket Board, the organization of the trophy is certain to be snatched away due to BCCI’s influence.
ICC tournament schedule from 2024 to 2031
England and Australia support BCCI’s decision
India’s decision not to play the Champions Trophy in Pakistan is getting the support of the cricket boards of England and Australia. BCCI’s decision of not playing in Pakistan and then changing the venue will also be supported by the cricket boards of other countries in the ICC meeting. There is a big reason why players from all other boards except Pakistan play in IPL.
SLC President Shami Silva said while talking to Dainik Bhaskar, the final decision will be taken in the ICC Board meeting. Sri Lankan Sports Minister Harin Fernando said, we will not comment on India’s decision not to play in Pakistan.
The team got hosting for the first time since 1996
According to media reports, PCB has submitted the draft of the venue of the tournament to ICC. The tournament is to be organized in February-March next year. This is the first time since the 1996 ODI World Cup that Pakistan has been given the hosting rights of an ICC event.
PCB Chairman decided the schedule of 15 matches
The Champions Trophy 2025 will be played from February 19 to March 9 next year, with March 10 being the reserve day for the final. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sent the draft of 15 matches of the tournament to ICC. ICC will approve this schedule only after taking consent from the boards of the 8 teams participating in the tournament.
Pakistan can face its biggest rival India on March 1, 2025 in Lahore. However, BCCI has not yet given its consent for this match. A senior member of the ICC board gave this information to PTI on Wednesday.
PCB had sent a proposal to hold all India matches in Lahore.
According to the report, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has sent the schedule of 15 matches to the ICC for the Champions Trophy 2025. In which all the matches of India have been kept in Lahore due to security reasons.
An ICC board member said, “The PCB has submitted a draft of the ICC Champions Trophy of 15 matches. There will be seven matches in Lahore, three in Karachi and five in Rawalpindi. The opening matches will be held in Karachi, while the two semi-finals will be held in Karachi and Rawalpindi. Apart from this, the final match will be played in Lahore, if the team reaches the semi-finals then this match will also be played in Lahore.
Eight teams in two groups
India has been placed in Group A along with Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand. Group B includes Australia, South Africa, England and Afghanistan. Recently, ICC events chief Chris Tetley met PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad after the security team inspected the venues and other arrangements.
Asia Cup matches were held in Sri Lanka on India’s request
Last year also Pakistan had got the hosting of Asia Cup. Even then, when India did not go there, this tournament was held on ‘hybrid model’. The matches against India were held in Sri Lanka. In the final match held in Colombo, the Indian team won the championship by defeating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets.
