The market share of India’s largest airline IndiGo has declined by 0.8% to 60.8% in June compared to May. Whereas, there has been an increase in the market share of Air India and Vistara. On the other hand, Akasa Air remained India’s most punctual airline for the fourth consecutive month.
According to data from the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the number of passengers reached 1.32 crore in June. A month ago in May, the number of passengers was 1.37 crore. That is, the number of passengers has decreased by 5 lakh on month-on-month basis.
Market share of IndiGo, Air India Express and SpiceJet decreased
IndiGo’s market share was 61.6% in May, which came down to 60.8% in June. At the same time, the share of Air India Express has come down from 5.1% in May to 4.8% in June. SpiceJet’s share declined from 4% to 3.8%.
Akasa Air ranks first in terms of on time performance
Akasa Air had an on-time performance of 79.5% at its four metro airports – New Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Mumbai. Vistara and Air India Express (AIX Connect) stood second and third, followed by IndiGo.
Flight operations across India were affected due to the monsoon. Due to this, the on-time performance of airlines fell in June. On-time performance had improved in March 2024 after flight delays due to dense fog throughout December, January and February.
22.78% flights of regional airline Fly Big canceled
The overall cancellation rate of scheduled domestic airlines for June 2024 stood at 1.47%. It was 1.7% in May and 0.80% in April. The cancellation rate of Flybig, a regional airline based in Gurugram (Haryana) was 22.78%. Air India’s cancellation rate was 2.15%.
Domestic airlines received a total of 786 passenger related complaints
Scheduled domestic airlines received a total of 786 passenger complaints during June 2024. The main reason for complaints was flight related problems. Of the total 786 complaints received by the airline, 784 (about 99.7%) have been resolved.
