Listed company’s license cancelled, allegations of employing child laborers, will impact be seen on shares?


Some distilleries share: Some distilleries and breweries listed in the stock market have suffered a major setback. In fact, the Madhya Pradesh government has suspended the license of Som Distilleries after the rescue of child laborers in Raisen district on June 19. According to the notification of the Excise Department, a rescue operation was conducted where child laborers were rescued from a liquor factory in Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh. The department further said that the minors were employed by a unit of Som Distilleries without police verification. Action has been taken in this matter. The suspension of Som Distilleries will remain in place for a period of 20 days or until the Labor Department gives approval for resumption of activities.

There was a big fall in the stock

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) had rescued 39 boys and 19 girls from the distillery of this company’s subsidiary in Madhya Pradesh. All of them were child labourers. After this news, shares of Som Distilleries fell by 16 percent on Tuesday. However, there was a slight decline in the stock in Wednesday’s trade and the price on BSE was Rs 115.85. Let us tell you that Som Distilleries and Breweries is an ISO-certified group of companies manufacturing and supplying beer, IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) and RTD (Ready to Drink) beverages.

The company clarified

Som Distilleries had given clarification in this matter on June 17. The company had said that workers for the subsidiary were supplied by contractors who may not have conducted proper age verification before allowing workers into the factory. The company had said that we would like to assure you that all the plants of our company are fully compliant with the applicable laws and have all the necessary permissions. Let us inform that the Bhopal plant of Som Distilleries currently has a capacity of 15.2 million cases of beer and 0.6 million cases of Indian made foreign liquor per year. It is also serving the areas of Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh from the Bhopal plant.
