Two players of the Indian squad, Avesh Khan and Shubhman Gill, can return to India in the T20 World Cup. Both the players are traveling reserves of the team. According to a report in Cricbuzz, the other two traveling reserve players, Rinku Singh and Khalil Ahmed, will remain with the Indian cricket team. Currently, traveling reserve players are with the team in Fort Lauderdale.
Reserve players are sent when traveling for major tournaments, as it is not possible for the board to send extra players in case of injury.
Both players will remain till the last match
In case of injury to any regular player during practice on June 14 or during the match the next day, both the players can be asked to remain on the field. But this possibility is very less as the match may be canceled due to the current bad weather in Florida.
Decision taken due to dependence on Yashasvi and spinners
According to the source, this decision has been taken because apart from Virat-Rohit, there is also third opener Yashasvi Jaiswal in the team and the team may not need an extra fast bowler because the team’s Super-8 matches will be played in West Indies. For this reason, there is expected to be more dependence on spinners.
First Super-8 match on June 20
Gill, Rinku Singh, Khalil Ahmed and Avesh were originally reserve players named by the selection committee when the squad for the World Cup was announced on April 30. For now, Rinku and Khalil are likely to remain with the team and travel to Bridgetown, Barbados, where India will play their first Super 8 match on June 20.
The other two Super 8 matches will be held in Antigua on June 22 and St. Lucia on June 24. If they reach the semi-finals, it will take place on June 27 in Georgetown, Guyana and the final will take place on June 29 in Bridgetown.
