The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given another chance to Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan. Both have been selected for the National Cricket Academy (NCA) High Performance Programme.

Both the players were dropped from BCCI’s central contract by Ajit Agarkar’s selection committee for not playing Ranji Trophy matches last season. Two months later, Iyer and Ishaan were included in the special team.

Shreyas-Ishaan on selectors’ radar
A BCCI source told Times of India on Saturday that neither BCCI nor NCA has any complaints against Iyer and Ishan. If he improves his attitude towards domestic cricket and plays for his home teams (Mumbai and Jharkhand) in the coming domestic season, then there is a possibility that he can regain his central contract. If both the players perform well then they can also return to Team India. This is an indication for him that he is on the radar of the selectors.

30 players were selected
Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Musheer Khan, Mayank Yadav, Umran Malik, Avesh Khan, Kuldeep Sen, Harshit Rana, Khalil Ahmed, Ashutosh, Tushar Deshpande, Ryan Parag, Sai Sudarshan, Sai Kishore, Devdutt Padikkal, Prithvi for NCA High Performance. 30 players including Shaw, Tanush Kotian have been selected.

Iyer-Kishan out of BCCI’s central contract
Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were dropped from BCCI’s central contract as they were leaving Ranji and preparing for IPL-2024. This contract will run from 1 October 2023 to 30 September 2024. The board had written that during the recommendations for the annual contract, the names of Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were also considered, but they were not given a place in the central contract. The board said that when players are not representing the national team, they should give priority to playing domestic cricket.
